What is the health tax that comes to all of us in our salary and what does it mean?
Health tax is a tax that is deducted for every resident of Israel from the age of 18 onwards, the payment of insurance premiums is calculated according to the amount of income the insured has from work and also for those who do not work at all.
The health tax was started by the Minister of Health at the time, Haim Ramon, who introduced and promoted the State Health Insurance Law, 1994, which entered into force in 1995. The law states that every resident of Israel is entitled to receive health services and a basket of basic medical services to be provided through the health insurance funds.
The State Health Basket provides health services in various fields as follows:
– Hospitalization for treatment
– in the coffers clinics or outpatient clinics in hospitals
– Laboratory tests
– Pregnancy tests and includes treatment by midwives and an obstetrician
– Child Development
– Nursing services
– analysis
– Supply of medicines in the health basket
– Therapeutic and diagnostic radiology
– Organ transplants
– Tests for early detection of cancer
– Treatments in paramedical professions
– Geriatrics, rehabilitation and cardiac rehabilitation
– Emergency medical services
– Soldiers’ health
– Student health
It should be noted that the state health insurance law provides only basic coverage, as opposed to additional health services (Shaban) of the health funds and private health policies.
